The Karamoja region of Uganda has seen a lot of conflict between the nomadic warriors and the Ugandan army. Only in recent years has wildlife been slowly returning as this violence dissipates.
The area has a large mining industry. Rocks are carried by truck to the capital, Kampala. The roads through the region are only dirt. In the rainy season from March till May these roads become muddy and are treacherous for the transporters. Trucks roll so frequently that local villagers wait on the roadside for an opportunity to help right the trucks to earn some money.
